One day after Republican President Donald Trump was inaugurated on Jan. 20, 2017, millions of women worldwide took to the streets to protest his election and take a stand against his anti-women policies and ideology. Trump went on to become America’s 45th president, despite him bragging about sexually assaulting women in an Access Hollywood video.
In a karmic turn of events on Dec. 12, 2017, another Republican, Alabama Gov. Roy Moore, lost his bid for the U.S. Senate when allegations surfaced about him sexually molesting teenage girls decades before. The victory went to Democrat Doug Jones. Alabama has not elected a Democrat to Congress in 25 years.
Millions of consumers had their personal information breached when the Equifax website was hacked. Equifax is one of the world’s largest credit reporting agencies.
Good news: The Los Angeles Dodgers went to the World Series. Bad news: They lost to the Houston Astros. Good news: The Astros have never won a championship series until now.
The U.S. was hit hard by a series of back-to-back hurricanes. First Hurricane Harvey devastated Houston, followed by Hurricane Irma, which plummeted Florida and Hurricane Maria, which left most of Puerto Rico without power for several weeks. Trump was harshly criticized after his trip to Puerto Rico when he began tossing rolls of paper towels to victims as if it were a game. He later bragged on himself, saying he did a great job helping people there.
A war of words between Trump and North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un escalated, and tension was heightened between the 2 countries amidst verbal threats of nuclear attacks. North Korea launched a missile that landed in the Sea of Japan during Japanese President Shinzo Abe’s visit with Trump in Florida.
Former FBI Director James Comey was fired by Trump after testifying that the president wanted him to stop the investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. In Jan. 2017, U.S. Intelligence published a report that concluded Russian dictator Vladamir Putin ordered a hacking campaign to harm Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
Rumors have surfaced that Comey’s replacement, Special Counsel Robert Mueller, may be getting the axe next by the former reality-star-turned-president whose catch phrase on the show was “You’re Fired!”
