Candidates Announced for Municipal Election

Papers have been filed and candidates are gearing up for the Inglewood Municipal Election, set for Tuesday, April 3.  With the Jan. 8 deadline just a day before last week's run-off between incumbent Mayor Roosevelt Dorn and Councilmember Judy Dunlap, candidates scurried to put their bids in for seats on the city council, school board, treasurer's and city clerk's offices.

Candidates must receive at least 50 percent plus one vote to be declared winners.  The municipal runoff election will be held on June 12. The last day to register to vote in the April 3 general municipal election is Monday, March 19.  To register, obtain more information on candidates or find out about the nearest polling place to your home, call the city clerk's office at (310) 412-5280 or visit the City's website at www.cityofinglewood.org.

The council race for District 1 is the biggest, with eight candidates vying for control.   Depending on their districts, Inglewood residents will cast votes in at least 2 of the voting categories:

Council District 1:  Jean Williams, George Dotson, Feleicia Ford, Daniel Tabor, LeRoy Fisher, Hector Beltran, Jason C. Wilkins, and Mike Stevens.

Council District 3:  Eloy Morales, Jr.

Council District 4:  Ralph Franklin and Ronald Banks.

School Board Seat 2:  Mary Bueno and Trina Williams.

School Board Seat 4:  Lisa Johnson, Earnestine Howard, William Burr, and Giselle Raines-Brown.

School Board Seat 5:  Johnny Young and Karen Robinson

City Clerk:  Yvonne Horton and Patricia Sanders

City Treasurer:  Wanda Brown and Chris Coleman

Eloy Morales, Jr. is the only candidate running unopposed in Council District 3. He is seeking his second term in office. Elected on April 1, 2003, Morales previously worked with Inglewood families through his position as a representative for former State Assemblymember Jerome Horton, increasing access to medical care, scholarships, and a more responsive government.  He was later elected to serve as the Chair of the Democratic Party's 51st Assembly District.

A health and fitness advocate, Morales has worked to establish a sports program for underprivileged children in Inglewood along with his father and founder Eloy Morales, Sr., and has been instrumental in raising awareness about nutrition.

Morales has resided in the 3rd District of Inglewood for 25 years.  He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from California State University, Northridge and a Juris Doctorate Degree from California Western School of Law.
