Recycling Black Dollars Celebrating Black History Month!

Recycling Black Dollars (RBD) started celebrating Black History Month with an informative networking session. The event was coordinated by Jacque Bee and held at Papa West Restaurant, 4336 S. Degnan Blvd., Los Angeles/Leimert Park Area. The networking meeting including inspiring presentations, guest speakers and a finger licking good breakfast.  RBD is a non-profit corporation founded in 1988 by the late Muhammad A. Nassardeen.  RBD’s mission is to aid in the economic development of the African American community by encouraging support of Black businesses.   Bobby Glanton Smith, served as emcee before passing the torch to RBD president Willie Fann who introduced guest speakers.  Oran Z of The Pan African Black Facts & Wax Museum gave important information regarding the historic exhibits and artifacts that are housed at the museum. The public is invited to peruse the website at www.oransblackmuseum.com and visit the museum at King Blvd.   Another engaging guest speaker was Inglewood resident Francella Henderson. She is the energetic author of Hidden Secrets About Black History, which provides a rich source of information and photos about some of the great Black Men and Women who helped shape the United States since the days of slavery. Henderson is an Inglewood resident, wife, mother of two sons and a grandson, Lamont K Brown, who is serving in the U. S. Air Force.  Henderson is a real estate broker, and sole proprietor of Fran’s Tax Service. Involved in her community the personable author has received a Proclamation from the City of Inglewood, for leadership and dedication for Community Services. Staff representatives, Linda Saunders, executive director and Jabari Ali, coupon fundraising manager, directed and presented a tribute to the Marcus Garvey School. Students from the school stopped by and performed an outstanding step and recital presentation for networking attendees.  The students spoke with confidence about pursuing their goals and seeking meaningful purpose in the community.  Anyone interested in supporting the building of a much-needed playground for the students can call the school at 323-291-9790. The next upcoming event is the RBD Black History Evening Mixer, which will be held on February 26, 2009.
