In response to the resignation of Mayor Dorn comments were submitted. Inglewood Mayor Roosevelt Dorn resigned from office just hours before pleading guilty to a misdemeanor conflict-of-interest charge for a low-interest loan he received from the city. He continues to maintain his innocence and a positive attitude.
If you want to submit your comments please provide your opinion or answer one or two of the following:
• How do you feel about this situation?
• Do you think the Mayor was treated fairly?
• How do you rate Mayor Dorn? What did you like or dislike about his leadership?
• Do you have a short comment about how he assisted you or responded to a community need?
Mayor Dorn was rated high in my book based on his leadership abilities--enthusiastic, confident,
committed, dedicated, decision maker, and a visionary. However, since reading and listening to
the media concerning the accusation that he was recently charged, conflict of interest and
misappropriation of $500,000 of public funds for which he pleaded guilty, that rating
has dropped tremendously. A good leader has an exemplary character. It is of utmost importance
that a leader is trustworthy to lead others. A leader needs to be trusted and be known to live their
life with honesty and integrity. A good leader “walks the talk” and in doing so earns the right to have
responsibility for others.
I think Danny Tabor should step up as a candidate for the mayoral position. When Danny first went into
politics, he was outstanding. He was in Ebony magazine was one to watch as an up and coming leader.
I think that same article listed Jesse Jackson, Jr. However, Danny did not keep
the momentum. He became slack in his duties. But he's back! He was out of politics for a while and he
has now returned mighty and strong and ready to take on the role as a leader in this great city.

I believe Mayor Dorn did help Inglewood turnaround from the blighted mess that the City was left with when Mayor Vincent left office. He also helped the City to undue and re-draft that terrible "lifetime contract" obtained by Western Refuse Company on Mayor Vincent's watch, as well. However, I am aware of several excellent contractors who sought to develop in Inglewood over the years, and lost significant amounts of good-faith monies submitted with proposals, which were unnecessarily kept, when agreements could not be reached under his administration. Because of this, Inglewood has carried a very negative reputation within the developer's circles, which discouraged many not to deal with the City.
I do not believe that Mayor Dorn was in tune with the people he served. He attempted to push the Wal-Mart Super Store slated for construction on Hollywood Parks lot, citing all the jobs it would create, without listening to the issues of the people concerning the negative reputation the store carried regarding low-wage jobs and subsidizing their employees healthcare with State funding sources.
Mayor Dorn's mistreatment of the homeless population in Inglewood was shameful. For years, Inglewood's service planning area 8 has been identified as a priority for homeless funds for permanent housing, transitional housing and emergency housing. Under Mayor Dorn's administration, he focused funding resources for community beautification and business development projects, instead of shelter and supportive services for the poor in the community. For the mayor to be an ordained minister, I find this a gross contradiction to the biblical teaching of God's divine priorities. The Bible clearly reads that God aligns himself with the poor, the orphan, the widow and the foreigner.
So, to hear that the Mayor had misappropriated funds for his personal use (his home), even while making $90,000 per year, suggests that he must have felt a sense of entitlement. But the homeless do not deserve any consideration in this city. I believe the media used the term "fiefdom"...Which means, "Because of his service, he believed he owned the City". It is written, "Pride comes before a fall."

I am saddened that the Mayor’s tenure has to come to an end the way it has. With regards to any laws being broken, it is the “letter of the law,” that will hurt many fine and well meaning individuals and non-profit organizations; those articles that are “in law” or policy/procedure. With regards to rating the Mayor, my church is not in the City of Inglewood nor do I reside in the City of Inglewood , therefore, I cannot personally comment on rating him. My only interactions with Mayor Dorn were at the IAMA meetings when he gave status reports. From those brief contacts I had with him, he was very nice and down to earth. Everything else I heard was “politics.”

This situation does not change or impact the city since it is under federal investigation any for past unexplained funds use since Mayor Vincent. I think the Mayor was treated fairly since he didn't go to jail like you or I would have. Mayor Dorn’s leadership was friendly but stubborn. The Police and educational departments need improvement.
