Inglewood Today Receives Publisher of the Year Award

The Pre-Christmas Presidential Day was a special event presented by the Baptist Ministers' Conference of Los Angeles and Southern California. Bishop L. Daniel Williams, president of the Baptist Ministers' Conference of Los

Angeles, and the Rev. Melvin V. Wade Sr., the host pastor, presided over the event.
The celebration, was joyous and spirit-filled as the Baptist Ministers' Conference of Los Angeles and Southern California recognized community dignitaries. Clergy, elected officials and community members attended this significant conference event that was held at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Los Angeles. The Conference was spiritually kicked off with a devotional period, followed by 
special greetings.
The Pre-Christmas Honorary Class Of 2008 was recognized. Pastor L. Daniel Williams not only carried out his duties as conference president but he also was the keynote speaker. He delivered an uplifting message in a style that also touches the hearts of his congregation at the Baptist Church of the New Covenant located in Norwalk.
Willie Brown receives award
The Pre-Christmas Presidential Day honorees were introduced by key presenters and then showered with a variety of awards, gifts and thunderous applause. Inglewood Today publisher, Willie Brown was presented the Publisher of the Year award. "Willie Brown is deserving of this award as he continues to publish
Inglewood Today on a weekly basis providing the community with positive news and timely articles. I encourage ministers to utilize this media resource to keep their congregations informed," stated Dr. Austin Williams, president of the Inglewood Area Ministers Association and pastor of True Vine Baptist Church in Inglewood.

Dr. Austin Williams with Willie BrownSalutes and accolades from governmental officials were received by the honorees. These officials included Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Sen. Rod Wright, Speaker Karen Bass, Assemblymember Curren Price, Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, Carson City Council representative and others.

In addition to Willie Brown, the extraordinary honorees included Shirley Hawkins, Journalist; La Quinta Howard, Human Services; Willie B. Johnson, Community Outreach; Rose Neale, Gospel Music; Pastor Sylvester Washington, Pastor of the Year and Eugenia Wilson, Children’s Services. Equally prominent community persons that included Pastor Austin F. Williams, Kathy Williamson, Doris Dillon, Bill Smith, Pastor Greg Hubbard, Pastor L. A. Kessee and Pamela Clay presented the prestigious honorees with awards.

The elected 2008 officers are E. Boyd Esters, Melvin V. Wade, Sr., Joe L. Gates, Joe A. Monroe, E. Wayne Gaddis, J. W. Brown, Milton Marshall, Jr., Larry Harold, L.L. Lewis, Eugene Bryant, Greg Hubbard and Alex Toussant.
