Lakers Celebrate 50 Amazing Years

Fans of the championship Los Angles Lakers will have even more to celebrate next year when the legendary franchise commemorates 50 years.
Their adventures will be chronicled in a new book titled, The Los Angeles Lakers: 50 Amazing Years in the City of Angels, which highlights their history in the NBA.
Lakers moved from Minneapolis in 1960, and helped pioneer expansion of new basketball teams on the West Coast. The sunshine proved to be good for the franchise, resulting in 10 NBA Championships, 24 Western Conference/Division titles, and 20 Pacific Division titles. The team holds the record for the longest consecutive wining streak in professional sports (33) and several NBA records including the most regular season wins and highest winning percentage over the past three decades.
Overall, the team has spawned some of the greatest players in NBA history including Elgin Baylor, Jerry West, Gail Goodrich, James Worthy and four of the NBA s Most Valuable Players Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Shaquille O Neal and Kobe Bryant.
Seven players have been inducted into the Hall of Fame, as well as coaches which Bill Sharman, Pat Riley and Phil Jackson—the most winning coach in NBA history.
The book contains more than 300 archival photos from Getty Images and text from the Los Angeles Times sports staff, including columns from the late Pulitzer Prize winner Jim Murray, with a foreword by current Coach Jackson. It chronicles the famous rivalry with the Boston Celtics in the ’60s, exciting Showtime basketball of the ’80s and the franchise’s dominance as four-time NBA champions in this decade.
