Senator Price Named To Key Senate Policy Committees
Senator Curren D. Price, Jr. (D-Los Angeles) announced his appointment to the Senate Committee on Education and the Senate Committee on Local Government on Monday.
The committee assignments were announced just days after the State-of-the-State address in
which Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger pledged to make education reform a top priority in the year to come.
"As noted by the governor, education reform must be pushed to the top of the Legislature's priority list. We recently passed
historic education reform when the Senate passed the 'Race to the Top' legislation to address California's dismal public school system,"
said Senator Price. "I am pleased with my appointment to the Senate Education so that I may take an active role in forming education
policy and look forward to advocating on behalf of equal education rights for the youth in my district and throughout the state of
California. We can no longer stand by while our education system falls even farther in the national rankings."
Senator Price continued, "I am also extremely pleased with my appointment to the Senate Local Government Committee. My tenure as
a public servant began at the local government level and I look forward to providing a voice for all residents of my district as the
legislature grapples with the current economic crisis."
Shortly after being sworn in on June 19, 2009, Senator Price was selected by President pro Tempore Steinberg to chair the
Legislative Joint Committee on the Arts as well as the Senate Select Committee on Procurement. Furthermore, Senator Price was selected to
be a member of the Appropriations Committee, the Banking, Finance and Insurance Committee, and the Governmental Organization Committee, as
well as the Select Committees on California's Horse Racing Industry, California's Wine Industry, Constitutional Reform, the Census,
Improving State Government and Obesity and Diabetes. He is a former Inglewood City Councilmember.
