Patti LaBelle Endorses the LCFL National Championship Game
Legendary entertainer and philanthropist Patti LaBelle endorses the LCFL, a semi-pro football league, launched in the fall of 2003. Other league supporters include NFL football player and NBC anchor Maurice Spencer, Ray Lewis of the Baltimore Ravens, Bobby Taylor of the Seattle Seahawks, Terrell Owens of the Dallas Cowboys, Donovan McNabb of the Philadelphia Eagles, and Stephen Davis of the Carolina Panthers.
These NFL greats support the LCFL, and are currently working together to create a minor league community football system along the East Coast. With Philadelphia as the Mecca, the league will establish regions throughout the Western United States and the Southern California area. The LCFL hopes to become a nationwide organization that helps empower its players, and give positive representation to their communities.
Patty Labelle will appear at the LCFL National Championship Game with the Philly Panthers vs. Inglewood Blackhawks at Oaks Stadium on the Soboba Indian Reservation in San Jacinto, California on January 14, 2007 at 2pm. Although she has a passion for football, Labelle is best known for her hits as an R&B/Soul singer. Born Patricia Louise Holt, the legendary singer originally fronted two moderately successful groups before achieving success as a solo artist in the late 1970s. In the process she has influenced a new generation of female singers. She is known for her strong vocals and her signature vocal belting. She had been largely compared to Aretha Franklin during the 1970s, but her distinguishing vocal belting remains unique and recognizable only to her. Labelle's biography, Don't Block the Blessings, remained at the top of the New York Times best seller list for several weeks. In addition, she is also a best-selling cook book author. She is widely regarded by many in the music industry, including VH1, Sir George Martin, and Rolling Stone magazine, as being one of the greatest vocalists of all time.
The Soboba Band of Luiseno Indians first became involved with the semi-pro league in early 2006 and built a stadium complete with professional lockers and regulation football field at the site of the Soboba Movie Ranch. Go to: http://www.sobobaranch.com.
According to Chairman Salgado, " We are in the process of organizing our team for next season. Olympic Gold Medalist, Ron Brown, will be the team's General Manager." Ron Brown was on Americas Gold Medal 4X100-relay team with Carl Lewis when they broke the world record in the 1984 Olympics. After the Olympics, Brown joined the Los Angeles Rams and played there until 1989 when he moved to Los Angeles Raiders in 1990. Brown ended his football career after the 1991 season, when he played again for the Los Angeles Rams.
The Soboba Movie Ranch is part of the Oaks Retreat and Conference Center owned by the Soboba Band of Luiseno Indians. Go to: http://www.soboba-nsn.gov/theoaks.html.
